![]() The 959 made it's mark in the rally world in 1986 by placing 1st, 2nd and 6th in the gruelling 22-day Paris-Dakar. The front of the car featured functional air intakes, while the rear sported an integrally mounted wing, which applied the necessary downforce at speeds over 48 mph. The 4 wheel independent suspension featured shift console-mounted controls for adjusting ride height and shock absorber damping. It led the way for the Carrera 4 which was introduced a few years later in 1988. The 959 was Porsche's first major effort to create an all-wheel drive production car. Top speed was an amazing 196 mph, or 315 kmh. ![]() Utilizing a Kevlar-composite body to reduce weight (3452 lbs, or 1566 kg), 0-60 mph was reached in 3.7 seconds. The 959 ran a twin-turbocharged, 2.85 flat-six engine that generated an astonishing 450 hp.
